First of all, this was the perfect time of the year to visit the Southern Hemisphere. Days were long, weather was perfect and while the guide predicted rain (and maybe even a little snow) when we hit the Andes, we had sun, sun, sun. Can’t promise that will happen for you.
This was another great tour – a balance of seeing and experiencing cities with a blend of meeting the real people. And, I have to say, unexpected beauty. The year prior we visited New Zealand and I thought some of the most spectacular scenery. Well, nothing compared to the Andes.

MY TIP FOR TRAVELERS: We did a lot of walking including climbing a volcano. It was strenuous but certainly doable (we even had an 80-year old hiking away). Definitely bring some rain gear and if you don’t like the cold, a hat and gloves (I did without them but as I said, we were lucky). The food on the tour was pretty basic … so if you are coming for something superb, better research and find a place to go on your free time. It was all good … but some people came for what they thought would be the best beef ever. I don’t really eat much meat so for me it was fine … but had I wanted superb, I think I would have been good to find my own.
WHAT’S TO LIVE ABOUT THE ARGENTINA AND CHILE TRIP? Oh my, the scenery. The small little extras OAT plans, like meeting the son of an ex-Nazi who tells the story in first-hand terms about what really happened. Did I say the scenery … Patagonia is not to be passed up. In many places it seemed like we were the only ones visiting the National Parks (and this was high peak season).
